Grid Tie Solar

A solar solution that is tied to the grid supplements your energy consumption from the grid. This solution is ideal for consumers that have a high consumption of energy during daylight hours, and would like to reduce usage from the grid. DC power is generated by your solar modules, converted, and synchronized to your AC grid supply and used as first priority. Any shortfall of energy is still obtained from the grid, and where allowed, excess energy can be exported to the grid.

This application is more commonly used in the commercial and industrial sector

Main advantages: Most cost effective, no storage costs & losses, high energy efficiency, simple installation
Main disadvantage: Does not provide any backup during load shedding / power outages

HYBRID solar

A hybrid system is normally used where battery backup and grid connection is applicable. This is the most popular solution for residential installations. The PV system will firstly charge the batteries and supply all loads on essential circuits. Any excess energy is then exported to non-essential household loads, thus resulting in a reduced energy consumption form the grid. In certain scenarios where allowed, any further excess energy can be exported to the grid.
This system is scalable to each consumer’s needs, and the number of PV modules and batteries can be customized to address energy usage and backup time required.

off grid solar

Off grid solar systems are mainly used where no grid connection is available. All energy is generated by PV modules and used during daylight hours. After hours energy requirements should be addressed by installing sufficient batteries.

This type of system has the capability of a grid input to supplement energy requirements and is a more cost-effective solution to hybrid, if only some loads are required to be on backup / off grid mode.

This is a popular system for households that would only need to partially cater for an off-grid scenario during load shedding or power outages, thus supplying only essential loads like lighting, entertainment and essential loads like fridges, security etc.

Advantages: independent from grid, partial essential operation during load shedding

Disadvantages: no back feed to non-essential loads and grid,
